It’s nothing new that blogging is increasingly being recognised as pretty lucrative business! There are so many of us bloggers out there now, that it can seem like a momentous task for somebody looking to start from scratch and enter the blogosphere! I’m by no means the ‘authority’ on blogging.. but I have been at it for over 5 years now and have learnt a shiiiiitload through my journey, as well as having spent some time working with the girl bosses at Chloe Digital who just know everything there is to know about blogging. I was asked by a few people to share some tips recently, so I thought why not make it into a post? So, here are my 5 top tips;
- Find Your Allies
Your fellow bloggers are your allies, not your competition! Giiiiirl, you really need to get this one to have a positive blogging experience. The fashion industry does get a bad rep for being all ‘devil wears prada’ and shit, but in my experience the mega b*tches are definitely the minority. You can easily notice that the successful bloggers are the ones who are spreadin’ the love! Comment, like and interact with your community! It will be returned and you will make connections, get inspiration and potentially even make some friends for life.
2. Create Consistency
You want to be present in your audience’s mind’s and establish yourself as an authority in your niche. Post every day at the same time and your audience will begin to know when to expect you and will look forward to your posts. Also keep your brand image consistent. Forgive me for sounding like a green juice sippin’, quinoa eating yoga guru, (okay that basically is me), but be true to who you are! This will exude authenticity and authenticity is damn attractive!
3. Be Proactive
Think outside the box! There’s no reason why you have to wait until you’re a certain size to start collaborating and getting yourself out there. Go out and network, cold call and email brands to pitch yourself! I won’t lie – the bigger bloggers are more attractive to brands, but there’s no harm in trying. Sometimes a brand will see something in you!
4. Think Strategically
Think like the motherfr*ckin’ girl boss that you are. It might be a hobby to you and I wouldn’t recommend that anyone become a blogger just to make money (you’ll be waiting a damn long time Hun). But, if you’re putting your time into it, you should think of it like a business and you should (eventually) be rewarded for your hard work! Put your readers at the centre of everything you do – what do they want to read, see and hear? Create content based on the season you’re in, the trends that are evolving and the topics of the moment …you’ll reap the benefits in your views!
5. Get Techie
Blogging ain’t all pretty flatlays and selfies. If you’re a blogger you’re in the digital minefield and so you can’t ignore the tech side. Invest some time into understanding SEO (or if you cba for that find someone who gets it & can do it for you …once again – chloedigital!).
Finally, if you’re considering starting a blog – just do it! There’s no point in waiting for the right time or until everything is perfect , just start snapping yo fine self and putting your content out there. Also make sure to connect with me on insta if you do & I will happily be your first follower & blogging ally!
