When Uncommon Workspace opened up in my area I was convinced that I was in some kind of sci-fi movie and that someone was extracting my thoughts from my brain! As the space came together, I was practically pressing my face against the glass in awe every time I passed by. The space was exactly how I’d dreamt that Pixil’s office would one day be. It literally couldn’t have been more ‘Leela-ish’ if I had designed it myself. Filled with pastel furniture, an array of blossoming houseplants and plenty of scandi sleek accents – the space was a breathtaking haven right in the middle of Borough.
Once I realised it was a workspace, I knew it wouldn’t be long until I would find myself working there. Last week, Bernadette and I spent a day exploring the workspace. Uncommon has a focus on ergonomics; with the entire space having been designed to maximise productivity by minimising the discomfort associated with ‘desk culture’. This is something that is sooo important to me as a personal trainer, as I so often see the damaging effects of sitting in a chair all day. So instead, the space was filled with sofas, noise cancelling ‘pod chairs’, and even a chaise lounge.
I always have to escape my flat to focus on my work. That stuffy feeling of being stuck in the house just suffocates me and I can never seem to buckle down and get things done. It’s also impossible for me to think clearly when i’m in my home environment and surrounded by reminders of chores I need to do. Uncommon really was the breath of fresh air that I needed. A big open space with a layout akin to a cosy coffee shop, the atmosphere couldn’t be more opposite to that of a busy office! Uncommon has a space in Highbury & Islington as well as Borough and you can even pop in spontaneously with a day pass. Check them out here.
